Pass Plus Cymru Young Driver Improvement Scheme
The Welsh Government funded project is aimed at young drivers aged 17 – 25 years old who have recently passed their test.
The course aims to help them improve their driving skills, gain additional experience, and maybe obtain a discount on their car insurance.
The project requires young drivers to attend a three-hour theory session with a Blaenau Gwent Road Safety Officer at a local fire station, followed by an "on-the-road in-car" session with a Pass Plus-registered Approved Driving Instructor. (The driving is split between two drivers over either a full day or two half days).
All drivers who take part will have the opportunity to improve their driving skills on this enhanced Pass Plus scheme.
About the scheme
The scheme comprises of six specially designed modules which cover:-
- Driving around town
- Driving out of town
- Driving in all weather
- Driving at night
- Driving on dual carriageways
- Driving on motorway
Also covered are
- defensive driving
- hazard awareness
- drugs and drink driving
- safe attitudes
- general driver behavior
"Why Should I Consider Pass Plus Cymru?"
As well as reducing the risk of being involved in a road crash, the scheme will enable you to gain valuable experience and skills.
Upon completion of the course each candidate will be issued with a Pass Plus Certificate.
The cost of the course, which has been accredited by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), is just £20 per candidate, a significant discount from the normal cost of between £120 and £150 per person.
To join the course you must :-
- hold a full driving license
- be between the ages of 17-25
- live in Wales
