Blaenau Gwent Council reviews progress made on Highways Improvement Works

Blaenau Gwent Council yesterday discussed the progress made on highways Improvements which have taken place over the past 5 years. They supported an option that should future Capital Funding become available a further programme of highways works comprising of ‘A’ Roads, High Priority Residential Roads and other Highway related structures should be progressed within the borough.

Classified Roads
The Highest Priority Classified Roads are ranked in order of priority below:
1. A467 Warm Turn Carriageway Resurfacing - £75k
2. Tafarnaubach Ind Est (Top Road) Resurfacing £175k
3. Blaenant Ind Est Roundabout Resurfacing - - £75k
4. Big Arch / Steelworks Road / GO Resurfacing - £50k
5. A4046 - Waun-Y-Pound Road, Ebbw Vale - £25k
6. College Road, Ebbw Vale - £100k

Residential Roads
Funding available for five other residential roads that are in the highest need of repair - £350k

Highways
Other Highway related works below:
1. Crash Barriers - £50k
2. Road Markings, signs and bollards - £35k
3. Speed Humps - £50k
4. Traffic Order Reviews - £15k

The above options could vary subject to the level of funding that may be made available.

Councillor Helen Cunningham, Deputy Leader and Executive Member Place and Environment said:
‘‘The Highways Capital Works Programme 2017-2022 was successful in improving the standard of our road network in Blaenau Gwent. Should funding become available, we have a ready to go programme of works that will maintain and enhance Classified Roads, Residential Roads and the Highway infrastructure within the borough. This is not only important for local communities but also businesses and visitors to Blaenau Gwent.”
