Active Travel Programme 2021-22

As part of the Council’s Active Travel Programme, we are encouraging Blaenau Gwent residents  to walk, or cycle, as part of their everyday journeys.

Earlier in 2021 we sought your views on how cycling and walking provision in Blaenau Gwent can be improved and in particular where there are facilities such as schools, leisure centres, employment sites and local shopping districts, which people can walk or cycle short distances to.

This public engagement was very successful with over 400 people participating.

We have carefully considered all your comments and combined this public opinion together with other relevant information to produce a draft Active Travel Network Map.

This has been launched on a new website and we are now asking:

  • Have we identified the correct routes for improvement (future routes)?
  • Are we correct in our assessment of routes that already meet the agreed standards (existing routes)?
  • Have we identified all the appropriate new routes?

All of the information gathered will be used to inform the development of the Active Travel Network Map for Blaenau Gwent, which will capture a 15-year plan for infrastructure and improvements, reflecting the priorities of local people.
