A strategy and plan for dealing with flood risk management in Blaenau Gwent.
Following the significant floods in 2007, the Government gave local authorities new powers to help manage local flood risk in a more coordinated way.
The Flood Water Management Act 2010 requires councils to lead the coordination of flood risk management for surface water, groundwater and smaller watercourses in their area. Main river flooding remains the responsibility of Natural Resources Wales (NRW).
Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council has produced a local Flood Risk Management Strategy and a flood risk management plan.
Flood Risk Management Strategy
The strategy is aimed at reducing the impact of flood risk on people, businesses and the environment.
A summary of the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy is also available.
Flood Risk Management Plan
The Flood Risk Management Plan outlines how identified flood risks are to be managed and mitigated over the next 6 years.
The Flood Risk Management Strategy and Plan has been subject to a Strategic Environmental Assessment
