Commencing 03/09/2025
A grant aimed at funding local community food initiatives that may have innovative ideas for improving access to healthy and sustainable food in Blaenau Gwent. Successful applicants will need to align their projects with the 4 objectives of the Blaenau Gwent Food Partnership’s Community Food Strategy: 1. Improving good Food Access. 2. Improving Health and Wellbeing. 3. Strengthen local Community and Business Networks. 4. Support Climate and Nature Recovery.
This grant scheme is for projects that promote a more coordinated approach to tackling the root causes of food insecurity through supporting community led initiatives to promote healthy, sustainable eating and growing. This includes growing projects, community food pantries, food education programmes such as cookery and nutrition classes, and furthering the good food movement in Blaenau Gwent.
Whilst this grant is open to all community groups and providers, it is not intended for emergency food support such as purchasing food supplies for food parcels/food banks or projects that promote the consumption of High- Fat, sugar, or Salt (HFSS) foods.
An example project from last year’s successful applicants – Abertillery Learning Community – Chillax Programme. Funding supported various practical workshops centred around learning cookery and growing skills to improve independence of disadvantaged pupils. Their Pumpkin project involved participants taking a holistic approach to food systems learning as they grew, harvested, prepared soup, composed and enjoyed the cultural significance of the vegetable.
The closing date for applications is the 1st of October 2025 and projects must be delivered and completed by March 2026.
