Young Carers ID card launch

Families First, in partnership with Carers Trust Wales and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, is supporting a new Welsh Government funded ID card scheme to help Young Carers in Wales.  A Young Carer is someone who helps look after their family or friend, who is ill, disabled, has a mental health condition or misuses drugs or alcohol.

There are several benefits to the Young Carers ID Card, if chosen to take it up, such as giving a Young Carer the ability to discreetly let people know they have responsibilities as a young carer and to have their role recognised, without having to repeatedly share personal details. It’s also a way to give a young carer confidence to ask for help and understanding from professionals such as teachers, doctors and pharmacists by producing the card when they may need this assistance.

Other benefits of YCID card is the offer of various discounts it brings, from a host of local businesses. So far we have gained local support from: -

  • Chilli of the Valley
  • J D Barbers
  • Beaufort Colts FC
  • Dizzy Kids
  • Scoopz Ice-cream and Desserts
  • Promo Cymru
  • EV1

We will be hosting a virtual launch of the Young Carers ID card on Wednesday 28th April at 2pm Via Mcirosoft Teams where our young carers and Partnership Officers have all been invited to attend.

If you are a local business and would like to offer your support for the YCID card, please get in touch by emailing maria.perkins@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk
