Network Rail, Easter disruptions

Transforming the Ebbw Vale line – Planned work over Easter

This Easter, Network Rail will be carrying out the first major work as part of this ongoing transformation of the line.

What work will take place over Easter?

From 23.35 on Thursday 14 to 05.40 on Tuesday 19 April (Easter weekend), we will be working on the railway 24 hours a day at various locations between Newport and Aberbeeg.

Work will include:

Preparation work

Throughout April, we will start setting up some of our site compounds which will be used over Easter and for the duration of the project. You may start to notice a lot of activity in these areas as they will include welfare facilities for our staff as well as being used as a storage area for machinery and materials and as an access point to the railway.

Our site compounds will be located in the Network Rail yard to the west of Llanhilleth station car park; Newbridge station; Crumlin Colliery and Sheedy’s Yard, Crosskeys.

Access points at the Network Rail yard north of Ebbw Vale Parkway station, Aberbeeg Old station and Llanhilleth Rugby Club will also be used for staff and machinery to get onto and off the tracks over the Easter weekend and for the duration of the whole project.

Changes to train services

If you are planning to travel by train between 15 and 18 April, train services will be affected on the Ebbw Vale line so our advice to passengers is to check before travelling at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
