Celebrating the start of World Breastfeeding Week at Our Teddy Bears Picnic!

Thank you to everyone who joined us Thursday at Bedwellty Park, Tredegar. We were overwhelmed by the turn out of families that attended marking a great first day of World Breastfeeding Week 2024.

As well as activities for all ages, the team were there to hold informative discussions about the numerous benefits of breastfeeding. We know that as well as health benefits to both you and baby, there are also environmental factors and cost savings advantages to be had.

The Breastfeeding campaign aims to increase the breastfeeding rate in our community. Current surveys show that Blaenau Gwent has one of the lowest breastfeeding rates in Wales, and we are committed to changing that.

Earlier this year TV personality Ferne McCann helped launch the councils #Get Blaenau Gwent breast feeding campaign. Ferne met with a group of breast feeding mums at their Cwm Flying Start Hub feeing group where Ferne shared her insights and experiences.  She said “I hope that this campaign will encourage young mums in Blaenau Gwent to get the right help to overcome of the one of the biggest hurdles for mums wanting to give it a try - lack of support”.

For more information about the campaign journey so far you can also read our recently published Breast Feeding report https://www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk/media/jbxhbwqd/breastfeeding-report-final.pdf

We thank you all again for showing your support to our breastfeeding campaign.
