It is illegal to smoke in all enclosed public places in Wales with very few exceptions. The law applies to pubs, clubs, restaurants, bars, shops, cinemas, leisure centres, shopping centres, workplaces and public transport including bus shelters and bus stations.
Employers, managers and those in control of premises must display no smoking signs and prevent anyone from smoking on their premises. If they fail to do this they could face a fine. Individuals can also receive a fine or a fixed penalty notice of £50 if they smoke in smoke free premises.
It is estimated that exposure to second-hand smoke increases the risk of lung cancer in adult non-smokers by 24 per cent and heart disease in adult non-smokers by 25 per cent. Passive smoking also causes respiratory disease and asthma in non-smoking adults and children.

To report a non-compliance with the law or for advice and guidance on complying with the ban, please report it to us.
The Council will deal with any complaints and have the powers to enter premises to establish if the legislation is being complied with. We can give fixed penalty notices to anyone we believe is committing, or has committed an offence under the law.
