We’re supporting a new campaign by Blaenau Gwent Council’s Education Service to improve school attendance.
The #NotInMissOut campaign celebrates the many varied benefits of going to school every day including learning, fun activities, great grades, excellent career prospects and spending time with friends.
We will be sharing details about how we are encouraging good attendance on our website and on our social media accounts.
Improving attendance in both primary and secondary schools is a top priority for the Council.
Pupils who take off an average of half a day off a week will have an attendance rate of 90%. Those who take off an average of one day off a week will have an attendance rate of 80%.
Allowing your children to take time off for reasons other than illness could be classed as unauthorised absences and may result in a Fixed Penalty Notice or prosecution.
To report your child as ill, or arrange an authorised absence, contact your child's school as soon as possible.
If you are having difficulty getting your child to attend school or are concerned there is a reason why your child does not want to go to school, please speak to your child's class teacher, Head of Year or Headteacher for help and support. There is also advice and support available from our Education Welfare Service. You can contact the service on:
- Telephone: 01495 311556
- Email: educationwelfareservice@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk
