Planning Application Fees
The cost of applying for planning permission depends on the type of work you want to do. Some types of planning applications, such as to add or improve disability access in the home or public buildings are exempt.
Download the planning fees document which lists all fees here: https://ecab.planningportal.co.uk/uploads/welsh_application_fees.pdf
The Planning Portal also has useful information here: https://www.planningportal.co.uk/wales/applications/how-to-apply/what-it-costs.
Appealing a planning decision is free.
How to pay
If you apply online via the Planning Portal you can pay your fee using the Pay For It service (select Miscellaneous Payments). We also accept BACS payments. Alternatively, you can send a cheque made payable to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council posted to the General Offices, Steelworks Road, Ebbw Vale, NP23 6DN. You can also pay over the telephone by calling 01495 311556. Full details are contained on the Planning Portal website.
If you are submitting your planning application by post you will need to post one copy of your application form along with one copy of your supporting documents and payment in full. All fees submitted by post should be paid by cheque to Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.
How long does it take?
Planning Decisions: The time it takes for a decision to be made depends on the type of planning permission you have applied for.
We aim to determine applications within the statutory time period of 8 weeks of receipt of a valid planning application. We also aim to determine applications that require an Environmental Impact Assessment within a statutory time period of 16 weeks.
If it is impractical to determine applications within the statutory timescales (outlined above) letters will be sent to the applicants / agents requesting an agreement to an extension of time.
Appeals: If your planning permission application is rejected we would encourage you to try to negotiate an amended scheme rather than submit an appeal. Find out more about Planning Appeals.
The Welsh Government website contains information on how long your appeal will take.
Please note that all times are a general guide, each stage of the planning process is decided on a case by case basis and lots of different factors could change the overall time it takes for a specific decision to be made. For example whether an application can be determined by officers or may need to be reported to Planning Committee. For more information please contact us.
