Person in detention discount application

A person counts as being in detention for council tax purposes if they are or have been:

  • Held in prison, hospital, or another location by court order.
  • Detained under the Immigration Act 1971 pending deportation.
  • Detained in a place of safety under the Mental Health Act 1983.

To apply for a detention discount, you’ll need:

  • The name and address of the establishment where they are or were detained.
  • Their prison service number if they are or were in prison.
  • Date of birth of the detainee
