Blaenau Gwent Council Budget 2023/2024

We’re looking to engage with residents about our Council Budget for 2023/24.

The Council is facing a range of financial pressures which has resulted in a significant funding gap. We have put together a series of savings and efficiencies proposals to try and address this shortfall, which we’d like your opinion on. These are likely to include changes to some services, and an increase in Council Tax.

There will be drop-in sessions held at our Community Hubs in town centre libraries on the following dates:

Wednesday, 1st February:

  • Tredegar Library Community Hub 10am – 12noon
  • Abertillery Library 10am – 12noon

Thursday 2nd February

  • Ebbw Vale Library Community Hub 2pm – 4pm
  • Blaina Institute 5pm – 7pm

Friday, 3rd February

  • Brynmawr Library Community Hub 10am – 12noon

We have also planned a live online session at 6pm on Wednesday, 1st February. Please use the link to register your attendance and questions for this event. 

At all sessions there will be members of the Council’s Cabinet and Corporate Leadership Team present to chat through the proposals and answer any questions.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Steve Thomas says:

“Setting this year’s Budget is not an easy task, and it’s important we get out and engage with people in our communities so that we can explain in more detail the scale of the challenge and the difficult decisions we are facing.

“We also want to ask them for their views on priorities and ideas for council spending.”

 The Council’s final budget will be decided by councillors later in February.
