Town Centre Deep Cleanse Underway Across The Borough

Recently a deep cleanse of the town centres has begun, starting with Blaina and Tredegar.  A crew of 10 men carried out high pressure water jetting in the town centres to clean all pavements, street furniture and bus stops. Weeds and overgrowth were also removed.  The thorough deep cleanse took place over a number of weeks on a Sunday.

This activity will not replace the regular cleansing that is undertook by the Council’s street cleansing crew, but as an addition to the works carried out by the Council and paying attention to the finer details that will make a difference to the area.

The deep cleanse of the town centres will take place on an annual basis.  Tredegar and Blaina have been completed and other towns; Ebbw Vale, Abertillery and Brynmawr will follow shortly.

Cllr Haydn Trollope, Executive Member for Environment, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council Said:

“The deep cleanse has made a significant difference to the town centres. Following on from the success of Blaina and Tredegar, we are now working with the other town centres in the Borough to ensure that they benefit from this special clean up.  This activity will take place on a yearly basis across our town centres. It does not take away from the regular cleansing activities undertaken by our street cleansing crew, who go out on a weekly basis to ensure that our town centres and surrounding areas are kept clean.  Litter picking and removing waste is undertaken on a regular basis by our teams to ensure that the area is clean and attractive for people to visit and spend time. We urge people to dispose of waste and litter in the correct manor to ensure that the areas remain clean for visitors and the local community to enjoy. ”
