Pest Control

The Council’s Scrutiny Committee has noted the pest control report presented at today’s meeting (Thursday 27 February 2020).

The report features information about the service demand data that is currently available for 2018/20/19 and 2019/2020 up to 31st December 2019.

The current service provides free rat infestation treatments for all residential properties in Blaenau Gwent.  It is provided by Rentokil (previously known as Mitie Pest Control) on behalf of the Council.

Rentokil provides other treatments including mice, bedbugs, cockroaches and fleas, offered at a charge.  However, 50 % concession is available to residents who receive the following benefits:

• Universal Credit
• Income Support
• Council Tax Reduction
• Working or Child Tax Income Credit
• Job Seekers Allowance

Councillor Joanna Wilkins, Chair of Community Services Scrutiny Committee says:

“The number of visits made by our pest control team every year proves that this service is still essential and used by many of our residents. With that in mind we have previously reviewed the service and therefore continue to provide this to our residents.  The service provides free rat infestation treatment to residents.  Additional treatments are available at a cost with concessions available.”

Today’s scrutiny meeting discussed and noted the contents of the report.  Option two has been agreed; members have accepted the report.
The pest control service operates from Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5pm. The service does not operate on public holidays.
