Partners want your views on the Blaenau Gwent of the future

The five objectives are a part of the draft ‘Summary Well-being Plan’, which has been drawn up by the Public Service Board as part of its work around the Welsh Government’s ‘Well-being of Future Generations Act (2015)’.

The draft plan was written following a well-being assessment and an extensive public engagement programme called the ‘Blaenau Gwent We Want’, which gave people the opportunity to have their say on how they would like Blaenau Gwent to look in the years to come. People were able to attend a series of events around the county borough or have their say online. These views, together with a detailed analysis of the area and its needs, have been used to draw up the draft plan.

The following objectives were decided upon following this feedback:

  • The best start in life for everyone
  • Safe and friendly communities
  • To look after and protect the natural environment
  • To forge new pathways to prosperity
  • To encourage healthy lifestyles

Cllr Nigel Daniels, Leader of Blaenau Gwent Council and Chair of the Public Service Board says:

“This is an extremely important piece of work that is going to help the Council and its public service partners to make sure that the services we all provide are fit for purpose for the future and are what the communities we serve expect from us. It is clear that going forward it will take a number of partner organisations working together to best serve the needs of the people of Blaenau Gwent.

“The people of Blaenau Gwent have helped to shape these objectives by telling us what is important to them and, together with our own findings, this has resulted in five objectives that we believe have the real power to bring about change. However, the objectives are still draft at this stage and so we are inviting people to have their say as we go forward towards finalising the Plan.”

The Blaenau Gwent Public Services Board exists to improve the economic, social, environmental and cultural well- being of the people living in the Blaenau Gwent area. For more information about the PSB go to http://blaenaugwentpsb.org.uk/
