Thank you to the residents, businesses and local councillors who joined us for our makeover of Somerset Street, Abertillery. As part of a one-week town boost, the street was closed and treated to a real glow up thanks to everyone coming along to muck in.
Street furniture and murals were painted, the area was cleaned, empty shops were vinyl wrapped to look more attractive and bunting was put up. All materials were sourced locally. The boost has been working with businesses and the local community to explore how people can be encouraged into town.
Somerset Street will once again be pedestrianised for the summer season. As part of the Blaenau Gwent Deal, we’re working differently with communities and asking them to work with us and be more involved in the place they live. Just goes to show what can happen when we all work together.
