Major Highways Works Have Started in Blaenau Gwent

Last year the Council had approved £2 million to invest in its highways network.  This was aimed at improving the conditions of residential roads throughout the borough.

Works commenced predominantly includes carriageway resurfacing, and renewal of road markings.

To date the following roadworks have been completed:

• Glyn Terrace, Tredegar
• Stonebridge and Honeyfield Road, Rassau
• Ty Dan-y-Wal, Cwmtillery
• Duffryn Road, Abertillery
• Cwm Nant Y Groes, Six Bells
• Lewis Street, Swfrydd
• Brynhyfryd Terrace, Cwm

Therefore at present the total area of resurfacing completed is 26,745m2

Further planned roadworks are being implemented over a number of phases and will be taking place between July and September 2018.

Upon final completion of these works, the total area of roadworks covered will be approximately 110,000m2.

These works will not only improve the quality of these roads for every day users in the community but also aid in enhancing opportunities for economic development, new inward investment and create a positive perception of visitors to or passing through the area.

Deputy Leader and Executive Member for the Environment Cllr Garth Collier said:

‘I am pleased to say we have made progress on improving the condition of roads following our announcement last year to invest £2million into our infrastructure. The first phase of works is complete and we have further roadworks planned for the next few months as part of this investment.

“We have listened to what the public have had to say regarding the condition of residential roads in Blaenau Gwent and have acted on this. Creating an enhanced environment with infrastructure that benefits not only our local communities but also businesses and visitors to Blaenau Gwent is a key priority for the Authority.’
