LEGO Education with Aspire Continues in Primary Schools

Previously the secondary schools in Blaenau Gwent undertook the activity and now the Aspire Team will be working with the Tredegar cluster of primary schools to deliver a Lego themed activity.

The activity is aimed at year 6 pupils and will focus on raising the profile of engineering and science.

The following schools will be taking part in the Lego themed activity next week:

·         St Josephs

·         Deighton

·         Glanhowy

·         Brynbach

·         Georgetown

Pupils will undertake an activity such as building and programming a Lego robot.  The challenge will be to make pupils think about the varied skills that are required as well as an exciting way to teach science, technology, english and maths. Following these sessions an inter school competition will take place along with a presentation to the winning school in June.

Corporate Director for Environment and Regeneration; Richard Crook, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council Said:

“This is a fantastic partnership opportunity to deliver a curriculum based activity with the benefit and support of local businesses in a school environment.   The Aspire Apprenticeship Scheme has recently been working with secondary schools and the Eden Centre to use Lego as a way of highlighting the varied skills required in the future and highlighting potential career paths available to them.  I’m pleased that the programme is now working with primary schools, with the aim of showing these pupils how engineering and technology and other subjects are important for the future.”
