Dewis Cymru provides information about a wide range of local and national services that can help people take control of their own well-being and make informed choices about the way they choose to live their lives.
The new website helps people find the information they need to improve their well-being and access local services across Wales. The Dewis Cymru website is an important first for Wales – a single, clear and reliable information source that can be used by members of the public as well as care service professionals, information and advice services and others across Wales to help support people achieve their well-being goals.
Councillor Huw David, Spokesperson for Health and Social Care at the Welsh Local Government Association said:
“Finding the right information can be challenging. This new resource aims to cut through the confusion by offering people clear, consistent and up-to-date information and advice on their well-being and what services are available in their local area. The website is a real cause for celebration, and a marker of true regional and national collaboration. It is a resource that has been built in Wales, by Wales for Wales.”
Richard Palmer, Assistant Director of Data Cymru, and project lead for Dewis Cymru, said:
“The 2014 Social Services and Well-being Act placed a duty on local authorities across Wales to make information about local services available to the public. Dewis is part of their response to this duty.”
He went on to say:
“Information is key to enabling people to make their own choices about how to best meet their well-being needs. After my mother died, my father wanted to live independently in the family home. Despite hours on the web, I struggled to find appropriate services to support him – largely due to inaccurate or out-of-date information. Dewis ensures that we have a wide range of up to date information which is easily available to the public – enabling them to have choice and take control of their own lives.”
Damien McCann, Corporate Director of Social Services at Blaenau Gwent Council, said:
“This is a fantastic resource for our communities within Blaenau Gwent either through accessing it themselves or through our Information, Advice and Assistance Service which will provide information to individuals when they contact the service. It is a useful tool in ensuring our communities can make informed choices about the help and support they can access locally to support their own well-being.”
