Free home energy efficiency improvements..

Blaenau Gwent Council is teaming up with utility companies to offer free energy efficiency improvements to the lowest graded homes in the county borough.

The Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme will give households with an F or G rating on their Energy Performance Certificate the automatic chance to apply for funding to improve the property’s energy performance and heat retention. E properties can also be eligible if anyone in the household is aged over 65; under 5 or has a specific qualifying illness.

If successful, applicants will have a bespoke home improvement plan drawn up to which could include enhancements to the central heating system, new insulation or other energy saving measures.

The scheme will be open to both private owner occupier and tenanted properties

Councillor Garth Collier, Blaenau Gwent Council’s Executive Member for the Environment says:

“This is a fantastic scheme where we will be working in partnership with a number of energy companies to tackle the issue of homes which are not energy efficient. The scheme is aimed at making sure people are living in properly heated, efficient homes and will help reduce the number of people living in fuel poverty.”

The Council will be contacting all the F and G graded homes eligible for the scheme and will also be advertising the scheme on its website and social media, giving people full details on how they can apply.
