Community Safety Hub Launched

It was all systems go yesterday (Tuesday 4th April 2019) morning as the NEW Community Safety Hub launched in Ebbw Vale Police Station. The hub is a multi-agency collaborative meeting of partners with the aim of creating safe and friendly communities in Blaenau Gwent - one of the Well-Being objectives for the area.

Chief Inspector Jason White explains: “Police and partners will now co-locate on a twice weekly basis to discuss and effectively deal with live time issues, crimes and disorder through a collaborative approach. This has been further enhanced through the creation of a fortnightly partnership tasking meeting where all partners will identify, problem-solve, safety plan and respond to identified vulnerabilities and demands within the Blaenau Gwent area.

He continued: “This is very much a people and places approach that involves discussions around repeat victims, prolific offenders, repeat callers, hot-spot areas for crime and ASB and community identified priorities. In addition to this, vulnerabilities will be identified by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Registered Social Landlords, including: Tai Calon, Seren, Melin and other partner agencies. This is about developing an area based approach to responding to community safety issues through short, medium and long term remedies.

“The concept is in keeping with the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act’s guiding principles for partnership working centre on five aims - Long-Term Thinking, Prevention, Integration, Collaboration and Involvement.

“This is an exciting new concept which we will see replicated across Gwent this year, including a Newport hub in summer 2019.”
