C2BG (the Council’s Contact Centre) will be closed from 5pm on Friday, 21st December 2018 and will re-open on Wednesday, 2nd January 2018 at 8am.
The Emergency out-of-hours service can be contacted on the usual number of 01495 311556 during this period. The Piper Alarm service will also continue to operate. Enquiries regarding Piper lifeline alarms out of office hours should be directed to 0845 056 8035.
Social Services Duty Team
The Duty Team Office will be closed from 5pm Friday, 21st December and will re-open on Wednesday, 2nd January 2019 at 9am.

Benefits Customer Services and the cash desk will close at 5pm on Friday, 21st December 2018. The cash desk will re-open on Wednesday, 2nd January 2019 at 8.30am and the Benefits Customer Services will re-open at 10am.

Community Options & Day Services
The Community Support and working projects within Social Services Day Services will be closed from Friday, 21st December 2018 and will re-open on Wednesday, 2nd January 2019.
Waste and Recycling Collection Services
Recycling and Refuse collections will be three days late during the Christmas period this year. If your collection day falls on:-
- Monday 24th December 2018 it will be collected on Thursday 27th December 2018;
- Tuesday 25th December 2018 it will be collected on Friday 28th December 2018;
- Wednesday 26th December 2018 it will be collected on Saturday 29th December 2018;
- Thursday 27th December 2018 it will be collected on Sunday 30th December 2018;
- Friday 28th December 2018 it will be collected on Monday 31st December 2018;
Recycling and Refuse collections will be two days late during the New Year period. If your collection day falls on:-
- Monday 31st December 2018 it will be collected on Wednesday 2nd January 2019;
- Tuesday 1st January 2019 it will be collected on Thursday 3rd January 2019;
- Wednesday 2nd January 2019 it will be collected on Friday 4th January 2019;
- Thursday 3rd January 2019 it will be collected on Saturday 5th January 2019;
- Friday 4th January 2019 it will be collected on Sunday 6th January 2019;
- From Monday 7th January 2019 all collections will return to normal.
Nappy and Hygiene Collection Service
Nappy and Hygiene sacks will be collected from the front of your property on:-
Friday, 21st December 2018.
There will be no collection made on Friday, 28th December 2018
The Nappy and Hygiene collection due to take place on Friday, 4th January 2019 will take place on Sunday, 6th January 2019.
Normal weekly Nappy and Hygiene collections will resume on Friday, 11th January 2019.
Recycle Your Christmas Tree
The Council’s Waste Department will be providing a service to collect and recycle your real Christmas Tree from Monday, 7th January 2019. Please contact C2BG on 01495 311556 to register your details or please register on My Council Services section on the council’s website at www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk to confirm a collection day for your Christmas Tree.
Household Waste and Recycling Centre, New Vale Civic Amenity Site
New Vale Civic Amenity Site will be open during the Christmas and New Year period between the hours of 10am and 4.30pm [Monday – Friday] and between 8am and 4.30pm [Saturday/Sunday] for residents to dispose of waste material. The site will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day only.

- Please recycle plain greetings cards only, unfortunately glitter, ribbons and badges are not recyclable and it will cause the card to be rejected.
- Christmas wrapping paper is not recyclable, please place in a black bag/bin for your 3-weekly refuse collection.
- Additional cardboard should be flat packed and placed at the side of your recycling receptacles.
- Small electrical items, batteries and textiles can be collected weekly at the same time as your regular recycling collection. Please bag items and place either on top or to the side of your recycling receptacles.
