Pre planning application for Welsh Medium Primary School and childcare facility in Tredegar/Sirhowy

Overview

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is committed to providing all children and young people with high quality education, which is tailored to meet their needs, develop their potential, extend aspirations, promote social inclusion and contribute to the economic regeneration of the area.

The Council has invested heavily in the 21st Century School Programme to improve school buildings over the last 10 years. The Council also recognises the importance of having modern and fit for purpose buildings that meet the needs of modern day education.

The Proposal

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council proposes to develop a new 210 place 3 to 11 Welsh-Medium Primary School incorporating a 30 place nursery facility and a separate full-day childcare setting for up to 28 children 0-3 years in Sirhowy, Tredegar. The proposal seeks to develop the school and childcare building on the field in Chartist Way.

This development is being funded by Welsh Governments Welsh-medium Grant and Childcare Offer Capital Programme.

The Childcare Offer programme aims to support parents back into employment, give them more choice over employment, give them more disposable income, whilst also developing the childcare sector in Wales.
